With stunning landscapes full of hiking trails, a vast collection of peaceful pitches and an abundance of picturesque backdrops perfect for alfresco dining, the county proved it’s got plenty of options for a romantic camping break – receiving an overall couples’ camping score of 7.17 out of a possible 10.
The research covered categories in shortlisted locations including percentage of campsites with internet access; percentage of adult only campsites; and campsites with hot tubs.
It also revealed three is company when furry members of the family can join the trip. In Gloucestershire, research found 90 per cent of all campsites are pet-friendly – contributing to its high ranking in the list.
And unlike many of its camping competitors in the top 10, half of all the campsites in Gloucestershire are also open all year round, meaning romantic getaways don’t just have to be scheduled for when the sun is shining.
Completing the top five, at number four is Scotland’s Isle of Skye, with the number three spot being taken by beautiful Cambridgeshire and a Cotswolds neighbour, Somerset coming in at number two. Taking the top spot is the historic Hadrian’s Wall, with an overall couples’ camping score of 8.60 out of 10.
