Sport Climbing Championship: Nurturing budding athletes

The 3rd edition of Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship 2023 concluded at Tata Steel Adventure Foundation facility at JRD Tata Sports complex. Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Ujjal Chakraborti, Managing Director, JCAPCPL. This flagship event of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation organized with the support of Tata Steel Foundation and JCAPCPL has been a great success

 

 

A true test of stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit. It brought out the best in all the 259 athletes from 16 states. The treacherous Bouldering routes, the herculean Lead climbing, and the formidable Speed Climbing were all worth the pain. The three disciplines of sport climbing – Lead, Speed, and Bouldering and the special and authentic Speed Relay surpassed all expectations as the athletes turned their best game on and raised the bar of sport climbing on the whole. The day was filled with final competitions in the combined category in which athletes’ average scores are calculated based on their performance in all three disciplines. It was the last opportunity for all the talented young stars to shine and dazzle. More than 250 climbers from 16 states participated in the event.

 

The Indian team’s performance was terrific with 33 medals under their belt. Sit and draw competitions and fun zones were also organized for the tiny tots. The youngest candidate was 5 years old. The spectators were intrigued by the exemplary talent of the young climbers.
